Lamana uses different kinds of wood species in their natural finish (the more accurate term is “unfinished”) to produce Ishinomaki Laboratory and Lamana Originals pieces. The prices vary depending on the customer’s wood preference. Other wood types may also be requested. 

 

TEAK​

• A valuable, highly sought after hardwood due to its remarkable qualities, including being naturally resistant to rot, fungus, and termites.

• With proper care, it lasts for over 100 years, making your teak furniture an heirloom piece.

• Has an attractive looking straight grain pattern coupled with a rich golden-brown color.

• Gives off a leather-like aroma.

• Weather resistant.  It is one of the few wood types in the world containing natural oil which repels water, keeping it from warping, cracking or becoming brittle, making it ideal for garden or outdoor furniture.

• It is a very dense wood and has a high weight to volume ratio.  Expect your furniture to be heavy.

• Our kiln dried teak timber is sourced from Southeast Asia and Latin America.​

ASH

• A heavy and strong hardwood that features tight grains

• Color ranges from light brown to warm honey

• Does not expand or contract much in response to weather conditions

• Suitable for indoor and outdoor use

• Naturally moisture and termite resistant

• Our kiln dried oak timber is sourced from Europe and U.S.​

TANGUILE / MERANTI​

• A hardwood that is desired for its durability yet more affordable price compared to other hardwoods.

• Brownish red in color.

• No characteristic smell.

• Has straight grains and hardly any knots.

• Though fungi and termite resistant, it is not an all-weather wood and must not be left under the rain. Recommended for indoor or lanai use.

• We refer to this wood type locally as tanguile but its international name is meranti.

• Our kiln dried tanguile/meranti timber is sourced from Southeast Asia.

BEECH​

• A hardwood that is easy to work with. It is tough and heavy. 

• Pale cream color, sometimes with a subtle pink or brown hue.

• No characteristic smell.

• Has straight grains, a fine uniform texture, and hardly any knots.

• For indoor use only.

• This wood type is used in many Scandinavian furniture pieces.

• Our kiln dried beech timber is sourced from Europe.

PINE​

• A light colored, softwood, with medium weight and density. The most cost efficient among the wood types we use.

• The pine aroma remains on the timber.  

• It has a fine texture, and small to medium sized knots that add to the decorative character of the furniture.

• For indoor use only.

• This is wood type is used in many Scandinavian furniture pieces.

• Our kiln dried, slow grown pine timber is sourced from Europe.
